ABC is defending the "Good Morning America" interview that prompted Chris Brown's reportedly violent outburst Tuesday morning (Mar. 21).
In a statement released this afternoon, the network said, "As always, we ask questions that are relevant and newsworthy, and that's what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown."
Chris Brown Has Violent Outburst After
'Good Morning America' Interview
Brown, who appeared on "GMA" to promote his just-released album, "F.A.M.E.," allegedly smashed a window and stormed out of the ABC building shirtless, after interviewer Robin Roberts asked him repeatedly about his assault of Rihanna in 2009.
"What's going on now is that recently the restraining order against you that Rihanna had issued has been relaxed...have you all seen each other, been around each other?" Roberts asked Brown.
"Not really," he replied. "It's not really a big deal to me now, as far as that situation. I think I'm past that in my life...today's the album day, so that's what I'm focused on."

Roberts briefly shifted her line of questioning to "F.A.M.E." but then returned to Brown's past, asking Brown how he put his troubles behind him. "I've been just focusing on this album," Brown said, sounding somewhat agitated. "This album is what I want people to hear and want people to really get into. So definitely this album is what I want people to talk about, and not stuff that happened two years ago.
"Sure has been an interesting AM @GMA," wrote Roberts on Twitter after her conversation with Brown. "Still sorting thru everything myself. Just my 2nd day on twitter, wonder what tomorrow will bring?"

The incident was discussed later on ABC's "The View," where co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck revealed that she was on the "GMA" set before Brown's outburst. "I saw him behind the scenes, actually -- a very different Chris Brown then they're saying, in terms of what happened after, allegedly. He was signing autographs for kids and he seemed pretty calm, so I don't know what happened after."
