Coldplay To Open 2012 Olympics
London's 2012 Olympics are on the way and already the planning process for the event's opening ceremony has begun. The country will be starting off next year's games with the performance of a special anthem.
Music-news.com has claimed that the track will be commissioned by Dartington Hall Trust charity. It is to be entitled "Welcome Song", and it looks like Chris Martin (along with the rest of Coldplay) is being targeted to perform the song.
"Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record. He's a huge star and a British musical icon, with an international profile", a source revealed to the Daily Mirror. "We're pulling out all the stops to get hold of him, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved, too."
"Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics. It needs to be something inspirational."
"The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as produce a recording of the track, which could help fund good causes in British sport."
Muse, Joss Stone, and Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn are other musicians who might be involved with the anthem.
You'll be able to see the Olympic opening ceremony, which is to be directed by Danny Boyle, on July 27th, 2012.
